Vintage Race AMX for sale

This is your chance to own a part of race history.  This 1968 AMC AMX was raced in the Midwest region of the  SCCA from 1969 to 1973 in the B production class.  It was known as number 66. There is no other AMX known with a race history going this far back.  The number 60 T.E.A.M. AMX car that was the factory effort was crushed as far as we know.

There is a SCCA log book for the car from May, 1973.  Factory driver Ike Knupp drove the car at times.

The car was raced in vintage events from September 1989, to May, 1992 and was very competitive.

The car was purchased from the last owner in March, 1988 and prepared for Vintage racing.  The AMX was rewarded the SVRA Historic Medallion in January, 1994.  The history of the car was heavily researched to get the certification from SVRA.  There are letters from the original owner, mechanic and builder in the cars files which are available.  Just the fact that the car has the Historic Medallion from SVRA speaks to the authenticity of the car.  The left side of the car, as can be seen in the pictures has never been repainted.  It still sports the original hand lettering.  Also, very unusual for a race car, this one comes with a title.

The car is very solid with  no rust.

As near as we can tell, the suspension of the car is unchanged from the original build.

The car was raced  in B production and vintage events with a 343.  There is a rare steel 343 crank shaft with the car.  There is now a 401 installed, but it isn't a race prepped engine.   The transmission is a Borg-Warner T-10 with Hurst shifter and the rear end is the AMC corporate Dana 20 with 3.91 gears and a limited slip unit.

The front lip and rear spoiler were installed for vintage racing.

The car did have a fuel tank with dual pickups that is still with the car.  There is a approved fuel cell installed in the car now.

The car is currently owned by George Doughtie and Jeff Puras.  Both are well known to the AMC scene.  George is past American Motors Owners Association concours chairman and Hi-Tech editor for the AMO Newsletter.  Jeff is an officer in the local AMO chapter.  They have both been involved in the racing, repair, showing and owning AMCs for decades.  For more infomation contact Jeff at  amx@mindspring.com and George at grdamc@comcast.net
